The Wanted’s upcoming concert in celebration of the London Olympics has been thrown into chaos due to a major ticketing blunder.
The British pop group is due to perform a free gig in Birmingham, England next month to mark the arrival of the Olympic torch relay in the city ahead of the upcoming 2012 Games.
Fans were encouraged to apply for the free tickets via a ballot, but a technical error meant everyone who put their name on the list was sent an email to confirm they had been successful, when only 20,000 free tickets for the concert are actually available.
Executives at the ticket distribution company Ticketmaster have now been forced to cancel all of the confirmations and launch another ballot.
A Ticketmaster spokesman tells the BBC, “Due to a data processing error, Ticketmaster incorrectly advised all customers who had entered the ballot for tickets to the London 2012 Olympic torch relay special city celebration in Birmingham that they were winners in the ballot.
“All customers who originally entered the ballot have been informed of the error and that all tickets previously claimed have been invalidated. In the interests of fairness to all applicants the ballot has now been declared void.”
The gig will take place at Birmingham’s Cannon Hill Park on 30 June.

Newly-engaged Angelina Jolie has poured her heart out about ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton in the foreword of his memoirs.
The actress split from the Oscar winner a decade ago, but it is clear she still has feelings for her former partner as she plans to wed Brad Pitt.
Cooing about the actor in the foreword of his new book The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts, which Life & Style magazine has obtained, Jolie writes, “He (Thornton) has an unmatchable wit and can make you laugh until your face hurts,” adding the star “has a big beautiful heart.”
Jolie will never forget how clever her eccentric ex-husband is: “To be with him is like being with a mad mathematician. He is constantly counting and repeating.”
The actress concludes with a touching tribute to Thornton, adding, “Some people walk through life able to quiet the voices in their heads. He can’t. And I, and everyone else who knows him well, we love him for it. I know one thing: The world would certainly be a hell of a lot more dull if that man weren’t in it.”

Following in the Hilary Swank is suing a company for using her image without her permission.
She filed a lawsuit in El Lay court against Robert’s Home Audio and Video for using pictures of her from the Oscar-winning movie in an advertising campaign.
Hilary and Clint aren’t the only two high-profile stars suing companies for using their image or name without permission. against audio-visual companies earlier this month.
Best of luck to all these stars in the court room these days. Hopefully their lawsuits deliver a swift K.O. to companies trying to take advantage of their name without the proper consent.
